With garden centres given the go-ahead to reopen in England and Wales this week and Scotland and Northern Ireland following soon, retailers in this sector are busy preparing to welcome customers and making the necessary changes to operate safely.

The Horticultural Trades Association (HTA) have been lobbying the Government to allow garden centres to reopen and will continue to do so for Scotland and Northern Ireland. They have been supporting members through lockdown with help and advice via daily updates.

HTA Safe Trading Guide for Garden Centres

To help garden centre retailers ensure they are adhering to the Government’s latest advice, the HTA have published a Safe Trading Guidance – Retail Protocols document. Guidance in the document has been recommended by the Government.

Guidance for All Retailers

Garden centres in England and Wales have been given the opportunity to set the standard for retail businesses. Many of the safe practices in the guidance will potentially apply to all retail sectors as the lockdown restrictions are eased. Retailers may be required to operate in very similar ways once they are allowed to reopen.
