As a business, we are preparing for the Government to make announcements about shops reopening. Whilst nobody knows when that will be or what it will look like, we want to ensure we are ready.

For those of you still trading in some form or another, you will be aware our support team are still working albeit with reduced resource to reflect the reduced number of calls being dealt with. When things reopen, we want to be geared up in terms of resource as well as making sure you are fully prepared, so any problems are kept to a minimum.

Therefore, we have put together six steps our retailers can take to make sure the transition is as smooth as possible.

How to Prepare Your Tills for Reopening

  1. Check all your hardware turns on correctly a few days before opening

  2. Check that your network is working and send an update to the tills – it would be prudent to reboot any routers and network switches

  3. Put through a test card and cash transaction on the tills to ensure that the pin pad, cash drawer and printer are working correctly

  4. If you have scales, ensure that these are working correctly and communicating to the tills

  5. If you are planning to move equipment to observe social distancing, please take note of which ports your peripherals are plugged into and ensure they are plugged into the same ports after the move – please ensure that all equipment is moved and tested prior to reopening

  6. The contactless limit for cards has been increased from £30 to £45 – if you would like to have this implemented, please contact our support team a week before reopening to arrange for the update to be sent to your pin pads (Touchretail customers, please contact your Verifone account manager)

We are anticipating that we may experience high volumes of calls in the days surrounding shops reopening and our priority will be focused on any issues that directly affect your ability to trade.
