This year for GLEE Birmingham, we are proud to announce that we have offset our carbon emissions for the show, as part of our sustainability initiative.
Sustainability is an important theme of GLEE 2021 and is reflected in the initiatives of the wider garden retail industry.
At Swan, we are taking steps to make our operations more sustainable and offsetting our carbon emissions for GLEE is one such step.
To understand our carbon footprint at the show, we calculated the emissions from our transport, accommodation, energy consumption and food consumption. It helped that the majority of our employees attending the show have electric or hybrid cars.
The resulting figure was estimated at 1.28 tonnes of CO2e using the ClimateCare calculator.
We then offset the carbon emissions by supporting ClimateCare’s sustainability portfolio of projects around the world. Such projects include replacing fossil fuel generated electricity with clean energy generation, protecting threatened rainforests and planting woodland.
This means our attendance at the show is completely carbon neutral.
